Life Lessons from Cowgirls Who Tamed the West

From the Author

This book is based on my life-long love and admiration for cowgirls, particularly those who settled the West. I spent years identifying and researching the cowgirls in this book. The stories almost seem too amazing to believe, but I assure you that they are all true.

As a reader, I was always disappointed that most published western history focused on the bad girls of the West, this book focuses solely on successful cowgirls who held honor and ethics above all else. These are the women that lead the way for the modern Americana woman. These are the women who burned their sidesaddles in protest and swung their leg over a horse to ride a stride —scandalous at the time. We all owe them our gratitude. I hope this book not only sheds light on these women's accomplishments, but also motivates you to be more like them. Read it to get some cowgirl smarts of your own, then let 'er buck!

About the Author

Ellen Reid Smith has been in awe of cowgirls most of her life. As one of the youngest female executives at American Airlines and IBM, she had few female mentors, so she modeled herself after the strongest women she knew--cowgirls who settled the Wild West. She believes that a cowgirl is wherever you find her—proving that you can take the cowgirl out of the Wild West, but you can’t take the Wild West out of the cowgirl.

Ellen travels the United States giving motivational presentations to women and teens about how to rope more out of life by adopting cowgirl smarts. She also performs employee training through a unique and entertaining presentation that adapts the Cowgirl Creed to the office place and customer service situations. She shows businesses how their employees can use their cowgirl smarts to increase customer and employee loyalty.
